Communications used during the migration to StarOffice
During 2005/06 Bristol City Council carried out a project to migrate
from a mixture of office software to StarOffice 7. This affected all
parts of the Council organisation and involved more than 5,000 users.
This was a major change that both introduced the use of a single office
software suite across all departments and moved to software with a
different background to the previously used packages.
This
report considers the particular purpose of communication during a
migration project, such as that carried out by Bristol, and the role
this plays in the management of the change. Particular reference is
made to the different ways that people react to change and respond to
different types of communication.
The report sets out a strategy and practical methods for communication, and provides some example documents in the associated pack as a practical resource that can be developed by others to fit their own communication needs. Further information on the Communications Pack is provided by the "readme" file inside the pack.
There is also a copy of a set of
intranet web pages used to support the communications, with example
content taken from the pages used by Bristol.
